I love speaking. Thus far, the themes of my talks have touched on artistic identity, creative risk, personal growth, and girls' education. Want to bring a new perspective to a conference or event? Just say hello here

Mailande’s warmth and storytelling abilities captured the hearts and attention of the room. Our attendees, of varying ages and backgrounds, consistently pointed to her presentation as the highlight of the day. Mailande will exceed expectations wherever she speaks!

As CreativeMornings Raleigh's speaker on Curiosity, I shared my ideas for "Curiosity for Creatives" with a sold-out crowd at Durham's Motorco. You can see more pictures here; a video will be available shortly!

Innovation in Action - Design Thinking Facilitation in Cuba

As the facilitator for the Innovation in Action: Cuba program in 2017, I spent two weeks leading fourteen high school students through an immersive curriculum that helped them understand design thinking through their experiences in a new culture.

As the Artist-in-Residence for the first-ever TEDxDurham, I was invited to design the stage for the event - I made several large-scale sculptures - and give a talk about the process of doing so.

Duke Design + Innovatio Symposium

Design + Innovation Symposium, The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University

Duke invited me to come and speak about creative risk through the lens of The Bizcard Project, in which I drew on all the backs of my business cards from my MBA program and put them on the internet (via #thebizcardproject on Instagram). You can view the entire talk here

Day of the Girl

Day of the Girl Summit, East Carolina University

She's the First ECU, which raises awareness and funds for girls' education, invited me to come and talk about my experiences teaching young women in Kyrgyzstan for their second annual Day of the Girl celebration. (At left, I'm amusing myself by taking pictures of  myself superimposed on a slide of myself during setup, because life is fun.)
